WYSIWYG model of The Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts
The Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts is the newly constructed home of the Canadian Opera Company.
Project SSSHH Incorporated was comissioned by Julian Sleath of the COC to convert the Rhinoceros 3D model, which was to be used in the construction of the building, into a 3D wyiswyg model that could be used to test the lighting positions before the venue design was finalized.
This was a very different project for us and wyiswyg proved itself extremley useful as a way to test proposed lighting positions for a venue that wasn't to exist for another two years.
Testing of the side booms
Of special importance while testing the lighting positions was each position's useability.
Tests were done to calculate the throw distance of each of the FOH hanging positions. These calculations would later be used to choose which lens types should be purchaced for new fixtures.
Another portion of the useability test for the FOH fixtures was to see what shots were possible from each position. Notes were taken on when the fixture beams would impact the proscenium on both the near and far sides.

"I just wanted you to know that in the last couple of weeks we have had Michael Whitfield, Steve Ross and Chris Dennis all focusing lights from the FOH positions and they seem delighted with all the options.
The near booms are proving to be really much better than expected.
So a big thanks for all that Wysiwyg work back in 2003. It seems to be paying off."
